Chances are that you intend to copy some files to or from your iPad and any other iOS device and you end up using any of the file transfer apps. However, many of you may have failed to realize that your iPad comes built-in with a file transfer feature. Known as AirDrop, this useful feature allows you to send any of your files among iOS devices located nearby.
AirDrop functions by using the Bluetooth connectivity to establish a point-to-point Wi-Fi network between two devices. Using AirDrop is a much safer way to transfer your files since they undergo encryption before transfer. With AirDrop enabled iPad, the connection is automatically established with any of your nearby devices to start sharing.
Since AirDrop uses Wi-Fi, the transfer of files is much faster than using other methods like Bluetooth or NFC. Below is how to turn on and share files with AirDrop on your iPad.
The AirDrop feature cannot be accessed via the Settings app or in the app drawer. It can only be accessed via the Control Center. This makes it much easier for you to turn on and share files instantly using AirDrop. To launch the Control Center, you need to slide up from the bottom of your iPad screen.
Before that, ensure that you have switched on the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity on your device. Tap on AirDrop to turn it on, off, or the default setting Contacts Only. This default setting ensures that only the people in your contacts can send you an AirDrop request.
To share files using AirDrop, you need to ensure that the device that you intend to transfer the files is nearby. If you wish to share a photo from your iPad into another device such as a Mac or iPhone, then you must go the Photos app and select the photos one by one. Then tap the Share button, which is indicated by a box with an arrow on top.
This will bring up the share menu and the nearby devices will be displayed as a circle with the label underneath. Mostly, the contact’s photo and name will be displayed. If not, it will appear simply as a gray circle with the initials of the device owner’s name. Tap on the circle, which will initiate a sending request to the recipient device to accept the AirDrop. When connected, the file will be sent instantly.
